Wills and Estates

– Whats Will and Estate Planning Mean?

If you pass away without leaving a will, Ontario law dictates who inherits your assets. The intestacy rules are what they’re called. People who you anticipated would get your property may obtain less or more than you expected under these regulations. Or they could not get anything at all.

Intestacy rules, for example, state that only a legally married spouse and biological and adopted children have a claim to your estate. A common-law partner or stepchildren who haven’t been formally adopted are not entitled to anything under the intestacy statutes.
